Top Christmas Traditions in Mesa

There are always a lot of activities happening in the East Valley, and the holiday season is no exception. If you’re like us, you love making the most out of the Christmas season.

We've put together a list of our favorite Christmas traditions in and around the East Valley. With this list, you and your loved ones will be able to organize and plan a festive and merry holiday season!

Mesa Temple Garden Lights

When: Nightly, from November 24th through December 31st

Nothing says Christmas like a light show!

The Mesa Temple Gardens will have hundreds of thousands of colorful lights. Come check out brightly lit palm trees, flowers gardens, a nativity scene, and recorded messages in both English and Spanish.

Merry Main Street

When: November 24th through January 5th

Downtown Mesa has it all this year. You will be able to ice skate, visit with Santa, and appreciate the city’s four-story tall Christmas tree. If you’re hungry, stop by Jack Frost’s Food Truck Forest for a delicious snack.

Tumbleweed Tree Lighting

When: December 2nd from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This unique Southwestern tradition is fun for the whole family. Enjoy the annual lighting of the Tumbleweed Tree in Downtown Chandler, and stick around for the beautiful Parade of Lights. This year will be the 60th annual tree lighting!

The 12Ks of Christmas

When: December 9th at 10:00 a.m.

If you consider yourself a runner, get in the holiday spirit with a festive and family-friendly day out. Freestone Park in Gilbert is going to have 1.2K, 6K, and 12K run/walks! Wear your Santa hat, reindeer antlers, or your most comfortable elf shoes to this event.

Not a runner? Cheer on racers and enjoy a Pet Village, gift bazaar, and live caroling performances.

The Salvation Army Christmas Angel

When: November 17th through December 21st

If the holiday season puts you in the giving spirit, why not share the holiday cheer with those less fortunate?

The Christmas Angel Program, put on by the Salvation Army each year, gives new toys and clothes to kids that otherwise wouldn’t have gifts to open on Christmas. Find the Angel Tree closest to you and pick a tag with a child’s name, age, and gift request - or donate online!

“A Christmas Carol”

When: Monday through Saturday, from November 30th through December 23rd

Come see Charles Dickens’ classic story come to life at the Hale Centre Theatre. This magical performance is one you won’t want to miss!

The performance includes great costumes, Christmas carols, and the timeless characters that help us appreciate the Christmas season.

Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade

When: November 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

What’s better than Christmas lights? Christmas lights on the water!

Up to 50 boats of all shapes and sizes will be lit with lights on Temple Town Lake, and the METRO Tempe Town Lake Bridge will radiate with a programmed LED display. Bring the whole family out to enjoy dazzling displays on the water.

Swim with Santa

When: December 30th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Help Santa and Mrs. Claus relax after a busy Christmas night with this unique tradition. Kids will be able to swim with Santa, have storytime with Mrs. Claus, and enjoy free milk and cookies while listening to holiday music.

Merry Christmas!

From our family to yours - we’re wishing you a happy, healthy and Merry Christmas!
